In a major political development within the Gujarat Congress, party president Shaktisinh Gohil resigned from his post just four hours after the results of the bypolls in Kadi and Visavadar were announced. Accepting full moral responsibility for the party’s defeat, Gohil formally submitted his resignation to the national leadership and made the announcement public.

Despite the Congress being out of power in Gujarat for the past 30 years, Gohil acknowledged the tireless commitment of party workers. "Our workers have continued to fight with determination, even though we haven’t seen electoral success. The struggle is not over. I take full moral responsibility and am resigning," he stated.

He further added, "I don't want to create any drama by resigning just to be persuaded to stay. I’ve never practiced double standards in my political life. Even if we had won just one of the two seats, I would have been satisfied. But since we didn’t, I’m stepping down immediately. I have sent my resignation to the national president."

Addressing the party’s future, Gohil noted that Congress leadership has decided to monitor the performance of newly appointed district presidents over a three-month period. Based on their performance, feedback will be sought again from the grassroots. “I welcome all new district presidents and offer my best wishes to both the outgoing and incoming ones. I have stepped down from the leadership role and will now continue to serve the party as a dedicated worker,” he affirmed.

Gohil concluded by saying that the new district presidents should not just align with his leadership style, but with the broader vision and values of the Congress party.
