<p data-start="0" data-end="291"><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;">Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday issued a sharp warning to those who 'habitually threaten' India over the strategically vital Siliguri Corridor&mdash;commonly referred to as the 'Chicken&rsquo;s Neck'&mdash;stating that Bangladesh itself has two such narrow and even more vulnerable corridors.</span></p>
<p data-start="293" data-end="581"><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;">Referring to the Siliguri Corridor, a slender stretch of land between 22 to 35 kilometres wide that connects India&rsquo;s northeast with the rest of the country, Mr Sarma, who leads one of the seven northeastern states, said that Bangladesh should not overlook its own geographical weaknesses.</span></p>
<p data-start="583" data-end="926"><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;">He pointed out that the first of Bangladesh&rsquo;s vulnerable corridors is the 80-kilometre-long North Bangladesh Corridor, situated between Dakhin Dinajpur and the South West Garo Hills. &ldquo;Any disruption in this area could completely sever the Rangpur division from the rest of Bangladesh,&rdquo; he wrote on X, alongside a map illustrating the corridor.</span></p>
<p data-start="928" data-end="1322"><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;">The second corridor, he said, is the 28-kilometre-long Chittagong Corridor, stretching from South Tripura to the Bay of Bengal. &ldquo;This corridor, even narrower than India&rsquo;s Chicken&rsquo;s Neck, is the sole link between Bangladesh&rsquo;s economic capital, Chittagong, and its political capital, Dhaka,&rdquo; Mr Sarma noted, asserting that he was merely highlighting &ldquo;geographical facts that some seem to forget.&rdquo;</span></p>
<p data-start="1324" data-end="1593"><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;">His comments come in response to recent remarks made by Bangladesh&rsquo;s chief advisor and Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus during a visit to China, where he referenced India&rsquo;s &ldquo;landlocked&rdquo; Northeast and portrayed Bangladesh as the &ldquo;only guardian of the ocean&rdquo; for the region.</span></p>
<p data-start="1595" data-end="2033"><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;">Taking strong exception to these comments, Mr Sarma warned Dhaka against any strategic adventurism concerning India&rsquo;s Siliguri Corridor. &ldquo;India may have one Chicken&rsquo;s Neck, but Bangladesh has two. If they even think of targeting our corridor, we will strike both of theirs. The corridor connecting Chittagong Port via Meghalaya is narrower than ours and lies just a stone&rsquo;s throw away,&rdquo; he told reporters at a press briefing on Wednesday.</span></p>
<p data-start="2035" data-end="2356"><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;">The outspoken BJP leader also reminded Bangladesh of India&rsquo;s military prowess, citing Operation Sindoor&mdash;a recent operation in which India reportedly destroyed terror camps deep inside Pakistan and struck 11 military installations. &ldquo;Bangladesh would need to be reborn 14 times over before daring to attack India,&rdquo; he said.</span></p>
<p data-start="2358" data-end="2790" data-is-last-node="" data-is-only-node=""><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;">The Siliguri Corridor, or Chicken&rsquo;s Neck, is crucial to India&rsquo;s national security. At its narrowest point, it measures just about 20 kilometres wide. It is bordered by Nepal and Bhutan to the north and Bangladesh to the south. All land-based transport&mdash;be it road or rail&mdash;between mainland India and the Northeast must pass through this corridor. The name &lsquo;Chicken&rsquo;s Neck&rsquo; stems from its distinctive shape and strategic vulnerability.</span></p>
