Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Manipur on Saturday, September 13, marking his first trip to the state since ethnic violence between the Kuki and Meitei communities erupted in May 2023. The unrest has claimed over 260 lives and displaced thousands.
According to Chief Secretary Puneet Kumar Goel, the visit is aimed at restoring peace, normalcy, and development in the conflict-hit region. 
Modi will also travel to Mizoram, where he will inaugurate the Bairabi&ndash;Sairang railway line.
In Churachandpur, a Kuki-majority district, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone for projects worth ₹7,300 crore at Peace Ground. 
Later, in Imphal, a Meitei-majority area, he will inaugurate infrastructure projects valued at ₹1,200 crore.
Security has been intensified across both districts, with restrictions imposed on items such as keys, pens, bags, and sharp objects at venues. 
Authorities have also banned air guns in Churachandpur ahead of the visit.
Opposition leaders welcomed the long-delayed trip but criticized its short duration. 
Congress MP Rahul Gandhi said it was &ldquo;good that he is going there now,&rdquo; while party communications chief Jairam Ramesh dismissed it as a &ldquo;non-visit,&rdquo; noting Modi is expected to spend only about three hours in Manipur.
The visit comes amid growing pressure on the Centre to resolve the ongoing ethnic conflict and provide relief to displaced families, as the violence enters its third year without resolution.
