External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar chaired a conference of Indian Consul Generals in the United States on Friday, bringing together senior diplomats from missions across the country to review India&ndash;US bilateral cooperation and engagement with the Indian diaspora.
The meeting in New York included officials from the Indian Embassy in Washington, D.C., and consulates in New York, San Francisco, Chicago, Atlanta, Houston, Boston, Los Angeles and Seattle. India&rsquo;s Ambassador to the United States, Vinay Kwatra, also attended the discussions.
In a post on X, Jaishankar said, &ldquo;Chaired a Consul Generals Conference in New York today&hellip; Reviewed our bilateral ties and support for diaspora activities. Appreciate the commitment and efforts of our Embassy &amp; Consulates in strengthening the India&ndash;US partnership.&rdquo;
The foreign minister also met UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Thursday for talks on global developments and multilateralism. 
After the meeting at the UN headquarters, Jaishankar wrote on X that he &ldquo;valued his assessment of the current global order and its implications for multilateralism&rdquo; and &ldquo;also appreciated his perspectives on various regional hotspots.&rdquo;
Jaishankar arrived in New York after a brief visit to Canada, where he attended the G7 foreign ministers&rsquo; meeting and met several counterparts, including US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
&ldquo;Good to meet @SecRubio this morning at #G7 FMM. Appreciate his condolences on the loss of lives in the blast in Delhi. Discussed our bilateral ties, focusing on trade and supply chains. Exchanged views on the Ukraine conflict, the Middle East/West Asia situation, and the Indo-Pacific,&rdquo; he posted on Wednesday.
His meeting with Rubio came shortly after US President Donald Trump said the United States is close to finalizing a trade agreement with India. 
&ldquo;We are making a deal with India, a much different deal than we had in the past&hellip; We&rsquo;re getting a fair deal, just a fair trade deal. We&rsquo;re getting close&hellip; I think we&rsquo;re pretty close to doing a deal that&rsquo;s good for everybody,&rdquo; Trump said on Monday.
