Vice president Jagdeep Dhankar reiterated BR Gavai's opinion on significance of &nbsp;protocol and respect for institutions, acknowledging that he himself had previously deviated from protocol, on Sunday. He commended the judiciary for its recent efforts to enhance accountability while also expressing concern over emerging tensions within India's constitutional framework.&nbsp;
He stated that he was also a sufferer of this experience. "You must have seen the photograph of the president and the prime minister, but not of the vice-president. Once I demit office, I'll ensure that my successor has a photograph." Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar&rsquo;s remarks on protocol followed Chief Justice of India (CJI) D.Y. Chandrachud&rsquo;s public expression of disappointment over the absence of senior Maharashtra officials during his first visit to the state after assuming office.
CJI Gavai, who was sworn in on May 14, had travelled to Mumbai for a felicitation event organised by the Bar Council of Maharashtra and Goa. He noted that the Maharashtra chief secretary, the director general of police, and the Mumbai Police commissioner were not present to receive him upon his arrival.
In response, just hours later, all three top officials were in attendance when CJI Gavai visited Chaityabhoomi in Dadar to pay tribute at the memorial of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, the principal architect of the Indian Constitution.
Speaking at a book launch event in Delhi on Monday, Vice President Dhankhar commented, &ldquo;This morning, I was reminded of something deeply significant in our country&mdash;not for individual recognition, but for upholding principles&mdash;we must respect protocol.&rdquo;
He added, &ldquo;The Chief Justice of India holds a position of great stature, and the protocol associated with that role must be honoured. His remarks were not personal; they reflected the dignity of the office he occupies. I am confident that this will now be duly considered by all.&rdquo;
Mr Dhankhar emphasized, &ldquo;I sincerely appreciate the current CJI for drawing the attention of the bureaucracy to this matter. Observing protocol is a basic but essential aspect of our system.&rdquo;
