Dr Amit Nayak, spokesperson for the Congress in Gujarat, has been expelled from the organisation for a period of six years. The disciplinary action follows multiple allegations including the use of derogatory language that could fall under the Atrocities Act, an extortion claim supported by an audio recording, and social media activity deemed detrimental to the party&rsquo;s image.
The decision was formalised through a suspension order issued by Balubhai Patel, who leads the Gujarat Congress disciplinary committee.&nbsp;
The order states that &ldquo;Dr Nayak had submitted a letter requesting to be relieved of his party roles, which was subsequently circulated online and reported in several newspapers. This development prompted Congress workers to raise the issue with Mukul Wasnik, the party&rsquo;s state in-charge, who then referred the matter to the disciplinary panel.&rdquo;
According to the findings, Dr Nayak allegedly used offensive language targeting the Scheduled Caste community, with the remarks documented in an audio file submitted to the panel. Another clip, also reviewed by the committee, reportedly captured a conversation suggestive of extortion, further intensifying the charges against him.
Balubhai Patel emphasised that while party members have the right to communicate concerns, such matters should be brought to the attention of party officials directly, rather than being made public in a manner that could cause reputational harm. &ldquo;Members should refrain from using social media or the press in ways that bring disrepute to the Congress,&rdquo; Patel stated.
The order also addressed the circulation of images showing Dr Nayak in the company of BJP leaders at various events. While acknowledging that such photographs exist, Patel clarified that they are not, in themselves, proof of inappropriate conduct. However, he warned against misusing these images online to imply impropriety, noting, &ldquo;Such photographs should not be weaponised on social media to spread misleading narratives.&rdquo;
With the conclusion of the inquiry, Dr Nayak has been officially suspended for six years. The Congress party&rsquo;s disciplinary body cited the combined seriousness of abusive remarks, suspected extortion, and irresponsible public commentary as grounds for its decision.
