Former Danish Ambassador Freddy Svane has strongly supported India&rsquo;s Operation Sindoor and ongoing diplomatic outreach, urging the global community to take firm action against Pakistan by reinstating it on the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) grey list for its continued support to terror financing and global terror outfits.
In a recent statement, Svane said it's time the world recognized that Pakistan remains the epicentre of regional terrorism. &ldquo;Terror doesn&rsquo;t emerge out of nowhere. It requires funding, coordination, and infrastructure. This must be stopped. Pakistan must be placed back where it belongs &mdash; on the FATF grey list,&rdquo; he emphasized.
Having served as Denmark&rsquo;s Ambassador to India, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, and the Maldives over two terms &mdash; including one that ended in December 2024 &mdash; Svane has witnessed firsthand the impact of terrorism in India.
&ldquo;I lived in India for nearly a decade and experienced the trauma of terror. Everyone knew Pakistan&rsquo;s role, directly or indirectly. Whether political or military, when it comes to terrorism, there is only one face &mdash; and that face is Pakistan,&rdquo; he said. Referring to the recent Pahalgam attack, he added that the time is right for a global, coordinated response to terrorism and Pakistan&rsquo;s role in it.
Svane also praised India&rsquo;s strong diplomatic offensive, including sending all-party delegations abroad to raise awareness about Operation Sindoor and the broader issue of cross-border terrorism. &ldquo;The outreach shows that India is no longer willing to tolerate state-sponsored terrorism. This is a mature, global India taking decisive action,&rdquo; he noted.
He met with the Indian delegation led by senior leader Ravi Shankar Prasad during its visit to Copenhagen from May 29&ndash;31, where the team emphasized India&rsquo;s firm stance against terrorism.
&ldquo;I asked some of the visiting Indian MPs if this kind of diplomatic initiative is new. I was told similar efforts were made decades ago. But the fact that India is doing this now shows it is taking a leading role globally in the fight against terror. It sends a powerful message &mdash; the world must act, not just speak,&rdquo; Svane said.
He concluded by calling for global unity in the fight against terror: &ldquo;India standing tall on this issue is the new normal. The message is clear: if terror is not stopped, consequences will follow. We must act together, as one global family.&rdquo;
