<p data-start="88" data-end="331"><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;">Karnataka Police have registered an FIR against six individuals accused of issuing threats and using offensive language against Union Minister for Food, Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Pralhad Joshi and Raichur BJP MLA Shivaraj Patil.</span></p>
<p data-start="333" data-end="726"><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;">The complaint, filed by BJP District President Veeranagouda Patil, led to the FIR being lodged at the West Police Station in Raichur City. The accused include Ashok Jain, Basavaraj Kalasa, M.R. Bery, S.R. Mareppa, and two others, all of whom are said to be actively involved in the ongoing agitation demanding the establishment of an All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Raichur.</span></p>
<p data-start="728" data-end="1150"><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;">According to the FIR, during a press conference on June 24, the accused allegedly threatened to attack Minister Joshi with stones, sticks, and sandals, stating they would target him wherever they found him. These threats were reportedly made in response to the minister&rsquo;s recent remarks that the final decision on the AIIMS project would depend on fulfilling eligibility criteria and an expert committee&rsquo;s recommendations.</span></p>
<p data-start="1152" data-end="1489"><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;">Protesters criticized Joshi&rsquo;s comments, questioning whether such criteria were applied to other AIIMS projects in the country and accusing him of attempting to shift the proposed institution to his hometown of Hubballi. They also allegedly used derogatory language against MLA Shivaraj Patil, calling him a "slave" of the Union Minister.</span></p>
<p data-start="1491" data-end="1652"><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;">The BJP has also submitted a formal complaint to the Deputy Commissioner, claiming that the remarks made during the press conference could provoke social unrest.</span></p>
<p data-start="1654" data-end="1780"><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;">The FIR has been filed under Sections 325, 351(2)(3), and 190 of the Indian Penal Code, and further investigation is underway.</span></p>
<p data-start="1782" data-end="1985"><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;">The demand for AIIMS in Raichur has been active for several years, with the AIIMS Horata Samiti's sit-in protest crossing 1,000 days in February 2025. Various groups have expressed support for the cause.</span></p>
