The Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee on Thursday launched the second phase of its Sangathan Srijan Abhiyan 2.0, a grassroots-level initiative aimed at strengthening the party's organisational structure across the state. This phase will focus on appointing new leadership at the Taluka, Town, and Ward levels.
Announcing the campaign at the party headquarters in Ahmedabad, Gujarat Congress president Amit Chavda said the process will be conducted in a time-bound manner from August 2 to August 10, with all appointments expected to be completed by August 20.
"This is the first time the Congress is implementing such a structured and time-sensitive approach to internal appointments," Chavda said.
In the first phase of the Sangathan Srijan Abhiyan, the party successfully appointed 41 city and district presidents. Now, the focus will shift to selecting Taluka Presidents, Town Presidents in municipal areas, and Ward Presidents within municipal corporations.
The drive is a follow-up to the party&rsquo;s Anand Shibir held last month, where senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi interacted with state party members for nearly four hours. According to Chavda, the campaign is aligned with the organisational roadmap set during the session and will pave the way for the party&rsquo;s upcoming &lsquo;Go to People&rsquo; outreach programme.
During the selection process, Congress observers will travel to different parts of Gujarat to consult with local workers and compile shortlists of suitable candidates. They will also assess the existing leadership at the taluka level and identify potential leaders for promotion to district and state roles.
Eligibility for these positions includes a maximum age of 55 years, at least five years of active service within the Congress party, and preference for candidates with formal education. Current officeholders who have served in the same role for five consecutive years will be replaced.
Observers are scheduled to submit their final reports to the state leadership after August 10, with appointments finalised by August 20. Once completed, the Congress is set to kick off its statewide outreach campaign in preparation for upcoming political engagements.
