After controversy surrounding her potential attendance at an RSS Vijayadasami celebration, Kamala Gavai, mother of Chief Justice of India Bhushan Gavai and founder of Shri Dadasaheb Charitable Trust, has not yet decided whether she will attend the event. 
&ldquo;After the social media controversy, she is upset about it. She has not yet made up her mind about whether she will attend the event,&rdquo; Dr. Rajendra Gavai, CJI&rsquo;s brother and leader of RPI (Gavai), told The Hindu on Tuesday. 
Earlier, he had said she had accepted the invitation and would be present.
The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh had invited Ms. Kamala Gavai as the chief guest for its Vijayadasami celebration in Amravati on October 5, three days after the event in Nagpur, as part of its centenary celebrations. 
Local RSS functionaries confirmed that she had accepted the invitation, after which the invitation cards were printed and distributed.
The controversy arose when a letter allegedly from Ms. Kamala Gavai circulated on social media, claiming she had declined the invite after criticism from Left-wing leaders. 
The letter stated her name was printed without permission and, as a committed Ambedkarite, she would not attend the event. 
Responding, Dr. Rajendra Gavai said, &ldquo;I have not seen the letter properly. But it has no signature. So there is no reason to believe it.&rdquo;
He added that the Gavai family maintains good relations across communities and distinguishes personal from political relations. 
He cited R.S. Gavai, the CJI&rsquo;s late father, a prominent Ambedkarite leader, who had attended previous RSS events.&nbsp;
Dr. Rajendra Gavai also suggested that some opponents of his brother&rsquo;s elevation might be spreading false information about the family. 
&ldquo;My brother holds an important post where we don&rsquo;t know if any other Buddhist will reach or not. The Gavai family respects all religions. We attend churches, mosques, temples. Yet those who oppose the family spread false claims,&rdquo; he said.
Responding to the controversy, CPI(M) leader Ashok Dhawale said that Ms. Kamala Gavai&rsquo;s earlier statement rejecting RSS events as an Ambedkarite was the correct stand. 
He criticized RSS and BJP, calling them proponents of Manusmruti, and highlighted Babasaheb Ambedkar&rsquo;s historic burning of Manusmruti as a revolutionary act. 
Dhawale added, &ldquo;If anyone calls themselves an Ambedkarite, they can never participate in an RSS or BJP event. It would be commendable if she maintains this stance as the mother of the Chief Justice of India. This sends a strong message against such politics in Maharashtra.&rdquo;
