Indian markets closed sharply higher on Thursday, driven by strong gains in banking, metal, and heavyweight stocks. The Sensex surged 1,000.36 points (1.21%) to 83,755.87, while the Nifty rose 304.25 points to end at 25,549.00.
Investor sentiment was bolstered by geopolitical stability in the Middle East and easing concerns over supply disruptions. Technical charts also indicated a breakout above recent consolidation, supporting bullish momentum.
Top Nifty gainers included Shriram Finance, Tata Steel, Bharti Airtel, and Hindalco, up between 2.5% and 3.7%. However, Dr Reddy&rsquo;s, Wipro, SBI, and Hero MotoCorp saw marginal losses.
Bank Nifty rose 1.03%, closing at 57,206.70. Nifty Metal led the sectoral rally, up 2.31%, followed by gains in Financial Services and Oil &amp; Gas. Realty, IT, and Media sectors ended lower.
Meanwhile, the rupee appreciated 33 paise to settle at 85.75 against the US dollar, aided by a weaker dollar index and falling crude prices. Analysts expect the rupee to head toward 85.25 if sentiment remains positive.
Gold prices stayed range-bound, with MCX Gold likely to move between ₹95,500 and ₹98,500 amid global monetary uncertainty.
