Indian equity markets ended higher on Thursday, marking a third straight session of gains, supported by strength in pharma and IT shares.
The Sensex climbed nearly 320 points to settle at 82,693.71, while the Nifty closed above the 25,400 level at 25,423.60. Broader markets were mostly stable, with mid-caps and small-caps ending flat to slightly positive.
Sector-wise, pharma and healthcare led the rally, while IT stocks also added momentum. However, energy counters and PSU banks faced selling pressure.
Investor sentiment improved after the U.S. Federal Reserve trimmed interest rates, which boosted global equities. Optimism over India-US trade talks and recent domestic economic signals further lifted the mood.
The rupee, however, weakened to 88.13 against the U.S. dollar, tracking global currency moves and cautious inflows.
Analysts noted that the Nifty faces resistance near 25,500, and some profit-booking could emerge at higher levels. Support is expected around 25,300.
