Indian stock markets began the day on a positive note, buoyed by favorable global cues, with early gains in the IT, pharma, and auto sectors.
By 9:25 a.m., the BSE Sensex was trading 68.28 points higher at 83,477.97, while the NSE Nifty rose by 19.30 points to 25,472.70.
Market experts noted that the indices are consolidating after a bullish rectangle breakout. &ldquo;As long as Nifty holds above the 25,200&ndash;25,270 range, bulls are simply taking a pause. A drop below 25,200 may lead to a decline towards 25,000, while 25,670 remains the bullish breakout trigger,&rdquo; said Akshay Chinchalkar, Head of Research at Axis Securities.
He also noted that today&rsquo;s weekly derivatives expiry could bring added volatility.
In sectoral performance, the Nifty Bank index slipped slightly by 9.90 points to 56,989.30. The Nifty Midcap 100 and Smallcap 100 also showed marginal declines of 0.04 per cent.
Among Sensex constituents, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Bajaj Finance, Bajaj Finserv, BEL, Titan, Axis Bank, NTPC, SBI, HCL Tech, and ITC were among the top losers. In contrast, stocks like Eternal (formerly Zomato), Asian Paints, M&amp;M, Infosys, Tech Mahindra, Maruti Suzuki, and ICICI Bank registered notable gains.
Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) extended their selling streak on July 2, offloading equities worth ₹1,561.62 crore. On the other hand, domestic institutional investors (DIIs) bought shares worth ₹3,036.68 crore.
Asian markets showed a mixed trend, with markets in Bangkok, China, Japan, Seoul, and Jakarta trading in the green, while Hong Kong was in the red.
On Wall Street, the Dow Jones ended slightly lower at 44,484.42 (-0.02%), while the S&amp;P 500 gained 0.47% to close at 6,227.42. The Nasdaq rose by 0.94% to 20,393.13.
Analysts noted that the recent US-Vietnam trade agreement highlights Washington&rsquo;s urgency to finalize trade pacts, especially as deals with the EU and Japan appear unlikely in the near future.
