The 30-share index opened flat at 79,828.99 against the previous close of 79,809.65 but gained momentum through the session, touching an intra-day high of 80,406.84. Nifty closed at 24,625.05, up 198.20 points or 0.81 per cent.</span></p>
<p data-start="856" data-end="1091"><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;">"Expectations of GST rationalisation at the upcoming council meeting continue to bolster sentiment, supporting discretionary consumption," said analysts. Optimism is particularly benefiting sectors such as Auto and Consumer Durables.</span></p>
<p data-start="1093" data-end="1406"><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;">Top gainers in the Sensex included Mahindra &amp; Mahindra, Tata Motors, Adani Ports, Trent, Infosys, Asian Paints, Tech Mahindra, Axis Bank, PowerGrid, Bajaj FinServ, Bajaj Finance, BEL, Tata Steel, Ultratech Cement, NTPC, ICICI Bank, TCS, and HCL Tech. Sun Pharma, ITC, and Hindustan Unilever were the top losers.</span></p>
<p data-start="1408" data-end="1633"><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;">Most sectoral indices advanced on strong buying interest. Nifty Fin Service rose 175.80 points (0.69%), Nifty Bank gained 346 points (0.65%), Nifty Auto soared 699 points (2.80%), and Nifty IT climbed 559.40 points (1.59%).</span></p>
<p data-start="1635" data-end="1807"><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;">The broader market followed suit: Nifty Smallcap 100 jumped 271.10 points (1.57%), Nifty Midcap 100 rallied 1,098 points (1.97%), and Nifty 100 surged 228 points (0.91%).</span></p>
