Indian equity markets ended higher on Wednesday, extending gains on the back of optimism surrounding the India-US trade deal and expectations of GST rationalisation.
The Sensex closed at 81,425.15, up 323 points or 0.43 per cent, after touching an intra-day high of 81,643.88. The Nifty settled at 24,973.10, adding 104.50 points or 0.42 per cent.
Investor sentiment was supported by hopes of a constructive outcome from trade negotiations with the US, along with expectations of stronger earnings in the second half of FY26. Anticipation of monetary easing further bolstered valuations.
IT stocks continued to outperform amid expectations of a US Federal Reserve rate cut and renewed momentum in technology spending. FMCG and banking counters also saw healthy buying.
Among the top gainers in the Sensex pack were BEL, HCL Tech, Bajaj Finance, Axis Bank, TCS, Tech Mahindra, Infosys, SBIN, L&amp;T, Adani Ports, ITC, Bajaj FinServ, and Kotak Bank. On the losing side, Mahindra &amp; Mahindra, Maruti Suzuki, Tata Motors, Ultratech Cement, PowerGrid, and Eternal ended in the red.
Most sectoral indices advanced, with Nifty IT climbing 2.63%, Nifty FMCG up 0.64%, Nifty Bank gaining 0.59%, and Nifty Financial Services adding 0.62%. Nifty Auto slipped 1.28% on profit booking.
The broader market mirrored the trend, as Nifty smallcap 100 rose 0.73%, Nifty midcap 100 gained 0.93%, and Nifty 100 added 0.59%.
