Indian equity benchmarks opened in positive territory on Monday, lifted by softening inflation data and steady domestic institutional investor (DII) support, even as global cues remained mixed.
At 9:24 AM, the BSE Sensex rose 156 points or 0.19% to trade at 82,410, while the NSE Nifty gained 55 points to hit 25,136. Midcap and smallcap indices outperformed, with the Nifty Midcap 100 surging 310 points to 59,363, and the Nifty Smallcap 100 climbing 145 points or 0.77% to 19,100.
"Given the volatile environment and mixed signals, traders should maintain a cautious 'buy-on-dips' strategy, especially when using leverage," advised Hardik Matalia of Choice Broking.
Among the top Sensex gainers were Sun Pharma, BEL, Bharti Airtel, Tata Motors, Infosys, Tech Mahindra, and SBI. Losers included HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Axis Bank, Tata Steel, and UltraTech Cement.
Asian markets saw mixed performance &mdash; Tokyo, Hong Kong, and Jakarta were in the green, while Shanghai, Bangkok, and Seoul declined. US markets closed higher on Monday, lending some support to sentiment.
Despite foreign institutional investors (FIIs) offloading ₹1,614 crore worth of equities on July 14, DIIs continued their buying streak, investing ₹1,787 crore for the sixth consecutive day.
A notable macro signal is the sharp drop in CPI inflation to 2.10% in June, below RBI&rsquo;s FY26 projection of 3.7%, strengthening expectations of a rate cut in the coming months.
Analysts advise monitoring Nifty&rsquo;s resistance near the 25,378 mark for any sustained bullish breakout, while remaining alert to global and technical trends.
