The Sensex closed at 83,871.32, up 335.97 points (0.40%), after touching an intraday high of 83,936.47. The Nifty also gained 120 points (0.47%), settling at 25,694.95.
Analysts noted that the market rebounded sharply after a cautious start due to concerns over the Delhi explosion. Buying momentum in large-cap stocks and optimism from Q2 corporate earnings helped sustain the rally.
Top performers from the Sensex included BEL, Adani Ports, Mahindra &amp; Mahindra, HCL Tech, Infosys, Sun Pharma, Bharti Airtel, Hindustan Unilever, L&amp;T, Tech Mahindra, and TCS. On the downside, Bajaj Finance, Bajaj Finserv, and Tata Motors PV saw mild losses.
Sectoral indices mostly ended in green, with Nifty IT climbing 1.20%, Nifty Auto up 1.07%, Nifty FMCG higher by 0.34%, and Nifty Bank adding 0.35%. Midcap stocks outperformed, with Nifty Midcap 100 rising 0.50%, while Nifty Small Cap 100 dipped slightly by 0.21%.
Market experts expect continued stability in the coming sessions, supported by strong earnings, positive sentiment, and easing global uncertainty.
