Indian equity markets closed higher on Tuesday, driven by a strong rally in IT stocks. The Sensex gained 314 points (0.4%) to 81,101, while the Nifty rose 95 points to 24,869, reclaiming its 100-day moving average at 24,820, signalling short-term bullishness.
Infosys led the gains, surging 5% to Rs 1,504 following an announcement that its board will consider a share buyback on September 11, adding 217 points to the Sensex. Other major gainers included Adani Ports, Tech Mahindra, HCL Technologies, TCS, and Bajaj Finserv, which rose 1&ndash;3%. Stocks such as Trent, Eternal, and UltraTech Cement declined 1&ndash;2%.
The broader market also moved higher, with Nifty MidCap and SmallCap indices up 0.3%. The Nifty IT index climbed 2.7%, while India&rsquo;s volatility gauge, the VIX, eased 1.8%, reflecting improved investor sentiment.
The rupee gained 0.18% to 88.14 against the US dollar, benefiting from a weaker greenback amid expectations of a Federal Reserve rate cut. Gold prices also rose, trading at $3,654 on COMEX and Rs 1,09,250 on MCX.
