Indian benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty rose 1% this week, snapping a six-week losing streak despite geopolitical uncertainties and tariff concerns.
Investor focus is now on the upcoming Trump-Putin meeting in Alaska, which may lead to a Russia-Ukraine ceasefire and possible removal of the 25% additional US tariff on India.
Sector-wise, Nifty IT led the gains, while Nifty Metal and Nifty FMCG closed lower. Broader markets underperformed, with Nifty Midcap and Nifty Smallcap ending in the red.
June quarter (Q1 FY26) earnings for Nifty50 companies (excluding financials and oil &amp; gas) showed mid-single-digit net profit growth YoY, in line with market estimates. The expected boost from urban demand recovery has yet to materialise.
Vinod Nair, Head of Research at Geojit Financial Services, said healthcare and PSU banks outperformed on strong earnings and stable asset quality. Low inflation, at an eight-year low, and S&amp;P&rsquo;s upgrade of India&rsquo;s sovereign rating to BBB are expected to lift investor sentiment.
Global cues were positive, aided by softer US inflation data and falling US bond yields, strengthening expectations for a Fed rate cut in September.
The Nifty is likely to trade between 24,350&ndash;24,750, with a breakout above 24,750 potentially taking it to the 25,000 mark.
On Thursday, FIIs sold equities worth ₹1,926 crore, while DIIs were net buyers at ₹3,895 crore.
