&nbsp;Indian equities closed lower on Friday as heavyweights dragged the indices amid concerns over US tariffs on Indian products.
The Sensex slipped 270.92 points (0.34%) to settle at 79,809.65, after trading mostly flat through the day. It touched an intra-day low of 79,741.76. The Nifty closed at 24,426.85, down 74.05 points (0.30%).
Reliance, Mahindra &amp; Mahindra, Infosys, Tata Motors, NTPC, Tech Mahindra, HDFC Bank, Titan, and Axis Bank ended in the red, while ITC, BEL, L&amp;T, Tata Steel, PowerGrid, Sun Pharma, and HCL Tech managed gains.
&ldquo;Investor sentiment remained cautious as markets attempted to digest the full impact of US tariffs. This will likely weigh on India&rsquo;s exports and currency,&rdquo; said Vinod Nair, Head of Research, Geojit Financial Services.
Sectorally, most indices ended lower: Nifty Bank fell 164 points (0.31%), Nifty Auto dropped 222 points (0.88%), and Nifty IT slipped 307 points (0.87%). However, Nifty FMCG jumped 528 points (0.95%) on hopes of GST rate rationalisation and robust consumer demand.
Broader markets mirrored the weakness, with Nifty Midcap 100 down 0.57% and Nifty Smallcap 100 down 0.39%.
Meanwhile, the rupee hit an all-time low of 88.20 against the dollar, falling 0.70% amid tariff-driven concerns. &ldquo;The rupee is expected to trade in the 87.65&ndash;88.45 range as pressure persists until clarity emerges from the GST Council&rsquo;s decisions,&rdquo; said Jateen Trivedi of LKP Securities.
