The Sensex dropped 689.81 points (0.83%) to finish at 82,500.47, while the Nifty fell 205.4 points (0.81%) to 25,149.85.
IT stocks led the fall, with TCS, HCL Tech, and Bharti Airtel among the top losers. TCS&rsquo;s disappointing Q1 FY25 results sparked a sector-wide selloff. Auto stocks also dragged indices lower, while FMCG and Pharma offered limited support.
Among Sensex laggards were Mahindra &amp; Mahindra, Tata Motors, and Titan, while Hindustan Unilever, Sun Pharma, Axis Bank, and NTPC bucked the trend with gains.
The broader market weakened too &mdash; Nifty MidCap slipped 0.88%, and SmallCap shed 1.02%.
Vinod Nair of Geojit Investments noted that &ldquo;premium valuations and global tariff uncertainty may cap fresh inflows.&rdquo;
India VIX, which measures market volatility, rose 1.24% to 11.81, reflecting nervous investor sentiment.
Experts suggest a cautious approach, with selective buying likely during earnings season dips.
