After several sessions of selling pressure, Indian stock markets bounced back on Tuesday with strong buying support across sectors lifting major indices. The Sensex rallied 446.93 points to close at 81,337.95, while the Nifty advanced 140.20 points, ending the day at 24,821.10.
The Sensex opened weak at 80,620.25 but quickly reversed course amid renewed interest in large-cap stocks, touching an intraday high of 81,429.88.
Analysts noted that the market rebounded from intraday lows despite ongoing concerns over US&ndash;India trade negotiations and muted Q1 earnings. Positive sentiment was driven by gains in metal, pharma, and realty stocks, even as sectors like IT, financials, and FMCG remained under pressure.
Top gainers included L&amp;T, Adani Ports, Asian Paints, Tata Steel, Tata Motors, Maruti Suzuki, Bharti Airtel, HDFC Bank, Bajaj Finance, and HCL Tech. On the flip side, TCS, Axis Bank, and Titan were among the key losers.
Broader markets also reflected the upbeat mood. Nifty Next 50 climbed 610 points (0.91%), Nifty 100 rose 158 points, Nifty Midcap 100 added 465 points (0.81%), and Nifty Small Cap 100 gained 186.70 points (over 1%).
Most sectoral indices ended in the green. Nifty Bank surged 137 points, Nifty Financial Services gained over 85 points, and Nifty Auto jumped 195 points.
Meanwhile, the rupee weakened slightly, closing at 86.80 against the US dollar, down 0.14, as the dollar index hovered near 99, overshadowing local equity gains.
Analysts expect volatility in the forex market to continue with a busy week ahead that includes the US Fed policy decision, key jobs data, GDP figures, and the August 1 deadline for reciprocal tariffs. The rupee is likely to move within the 86.45 to 87.25 range in the near term, according to market experts.
