Pharma stocks also registered declines, while power, oil &amp; gas, and realty counters managed to stay resilient. Adani Enterprises, Bajaj Auto, and UltraTech Cement were among the notable gainers.
Midcap and smallcap indices mirrored the weakness in large caps, losing around 0.5&ndash;1 percent. On the currency front, the rupee weakened slightly to close near ₹88.31 per U.S. dollar, weighed down by the negative sentiment.
Analysts noted that while the H-1B visa development has caused near-term jitters, the market may stabilise if Nifty holds support near 25,000. Resistance is seen around 25,250&ndash;25,400 levels.
The broader outlook suggests volatility may continue, especially for IT stocks, until more clarity emerges on the impact of U.S. policy changes.
