Shares of Indian online gaming companies continued to slide sharply on Monday following the approval of the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill, 2025.
Nazara Technologies shares dropped 6.29% to Rs 1,084, hitting their lowest in over three months during intra-day trading, with a five-day decline of 22%. Delta Corp shares fell 2.45% to Rs 85.24, down 23.29% YTD.
The new law prohibits online money games that require deposits with the expectation of winning cash. Analysts warn that the legislation could impact about 2 lakh jobs, Rs 25,000 crore in foreign investment, and Rs 20,000 crore in tax revenue. Violations of the Act could lead to 3 years imprisonment and fines up to Rs 1 crore, while promoting or sponsoring such games could bring 2 years jail or Rs 50 lakh fines.
Minister of Electronics and IT Ashwini Vaishnaw described online money games as a &ldquo;public health risk,&rdquo; citing losses of Rs 20,000 crore annually by nearly 45 crore Indians. Several suicides linked to online money games, including an incident in Mysuru where a family lost Rs 80 lakh, have raised concerns.
Following the bill&rsquo;s passage, companies like Dream Sports, MPL, Gameskraft, and Zupee suspended real-money gaming on their platforms. Reports indicate that several RMG firms may file writ petitions challenging the law in high courts.
