Indian equity benchmarks opened flat on Tuesday, tracking mixed global cues after the US and China extended their trade truce for another 90 days.
The BSE Sensex inched up 80 points, or 0.10%, to 80,684, while the Nifty 50 rose 0.11% to 24,612. Broader markets saw buying interest, with the BSE SmallCap up 0.39% and the BSE MidCap gaining 0.06%.
Sector-wise, the Nifty IT index led the gains, rising 0.79%, followed by the Nifty Metal index at 0.60%. Most other indices traded within a narrow range, showing marginal moves between 0.10% and 0.40%. Hero MotoCorp topped the Nifty gainers list, followed by Tata Steel and TCS. On the losing side, Dr Reddy&rsquo;s Laboratories slipped 0.91%, with ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank, Grasim, and Bajaj Finance also declining.
Analysts noted that a decisive break above 24,650 could push Nifty towards 24,850, while immediate support lies at 24,500 and 24,330.
In Asia, markets were mostly higher after the US-China truce extension, with Japan&rsquo;s Nikkei surging 2.46% to record highs. China&rsquo;s Shanghai Composite added 0.41%, Shenzhen gained 0.19%, South Korea&rsquo;s Kospi rose 0.40%, while Hong Kong&rsquo;s Hang Seng was flat.
Overnight, US markets closed lower, with the Dow Jones down 0.45%, the S&amp;P 500 losing 0.25%, and the Nasdaq slipping 0.30%.
On Monday, FIIs sold equities worth about ₹1,200 crore, while DIIs were net buyers of ₹5,972 crore.
