The Sensex rose by 90.83 points to close at 83,697.29, while the Nifty added 24.75 points to finish at 25,541.80. Gains were tempered as markets awaited clarity on a possible India-US trade deal and upcoming US economic indicators.
Top performers on the Sensex included BEL (+2.51%), Asian Paints, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Infosys, and Titan. Meanwhile, Axis Bank, Trent, Tech Mahindra, and ICICI Bank were among the laggards.
Broader markets displayed mixed trends: Nifty Midcap100 ended flat, while Nifty Smallcap100 dipped 0.10%. Sectorally, PSU Banks, Metals, Oil &amp; Gas, and Pharma closed higher, but Auto, IT, and FMCG saw declines.
The India VIX dropped 2.01% to 12.5, signalling easing volatility. Meanwhile, gold prices surged&mdash;with Comex up $30 and MCX Gold rising ₹1,200&mdash;on the back of a weaker dollar.
The rupee strengthened by 0.28%, closing at 85.51, aided by subdued crude oil prices and a soft dollar.
Market sentiment remains optimistic ahead of the US jobs data and other key economic reports.
