Indian stock markets opened on a positive note Friday, buoyed by optimism surrounding a potential landmark trade deal between India and the United States. Early gains were seen in PSU banks and IT stocks.
As of 9:15 a.m., the Sensex rose by 150.40 points (0.18%) to trade at 83,906.27, while the Nifty gained 54.50 points (0.21%) at 25,603.
The upbeat market sentiment followed a statement by former US President Donald Trump, who hinted at a "very big" trade agreement with India. Speaking at the "Big Beautiful Event" at the White House, Trump said a &ldquo;great deal&rdquo; was in the works between the two countries.
Analysts also pointed to reports that the July 9 US reciprocal tariff deadline could be extended&mdash;adding further support to investor confidence.
Despite global headwinds such as inflation, central bank tightening, and geopolitical tensions, markets have remained resilient. &ldquo;The bull market has climbed walls of worry and appears unfazed even as the tariff deadline approaches,&rdquo; said Dr. VK Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist at Geojit.
Among sectoral indices, the Nifty Bank was down slightly by 80.25 points (0.14%) at 57,126.45. Meanwhile, the Nifty Midcap 100 gained 278.25 points (0.47%) to reach 59,505.65, and the Nifty Smallcap 100 rose 114.70 points (0.61%) to 18,920.30.
Technical indicators continue to show bullish strength. &ldquo;The previous inside day pattern predicted a big move, and that momentum continued with a wide advance across Nifty stocks,&rdquo; noted Akshay Chinchalkar of Axis Securities. He added that the 25,700&ndash;25,800 range is now the next key resistance level, while 25,000 acts as tactical support.
Top gainers in the Sensex pack included L&amp;T, Tata Steel, SBI, Tata Motors, NTPC, and HCL Tech. On the downside, HDFC Bank, Bajaj Finserv, Kotak Mahindra Bank, and Bajaj Finance saw early losses.
Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) were net buyers on June 26, picking up equities worth ₹12,594.38 crore. In contrast, domestic institutional investors (DIIs) offloaded equities worth ₹195.23 crore.
In Asia, markets were mostly in the red with China, Bangkok, Seoul, and Hong Kong trading lower. Japan was the only major index showing gains.
On Wall Street, the previous session ended on a strong note with the Dow Jones rising 404.41 points (0.94%) to close at 43,386.84. The S&amp;P 500 added 48.86 points (0.80%) to finish at 6,141.02, while the Nasdaq advanced 194.36 points (0.97%) to close at 20,167.91.
