Indian stock indices opened higher on Tuesday, led by strong buying in banking stocks and supported by gains in midcap and smallcap segments, amid mixed global cues.
As of 9:23 AM, the BSE Sensex rose 152 points (0.19%) to 82,359, while the NSE Nifty climbed 38 points (0.15%) to 25,129. The Nifty Bank index outperformed, rising by 0.30%, signalling continued momentum in banking counters.
Broader market indices also showed strength. The Nifty Midcap 100 index was up 45 points (0.08%) at 59,514, and the Nifty Smallcap 100 gained 80 points (0.42%) to 19,038.
Sectorally, PSU banks, financial services, metals, media, energy, and private banks were in the green, while pharma, IT, auto, and FMCG saw mild declines.
Top Sensex gainers included Trent, Tata Steel, ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank, TCS, BEL, NTPC, and SBI. Losers included Tata Motors, Sun Pharma, M&amp;M, Bharti Airtel, and Asian Paints.
Market expert Mandar Bhojane noted that Nifty&rsquo;s rebound from the 50-day EMA and strong close above 25,000 suggests a possible trend reversal. He highlighted 25,150 as a key resistance, while support remains at 25,000 and 24,900.
Globally, Asian markets showed mixed sentiment: Tokyo and Seoul declined, while Shanghai, Hong Kong, and Jakarta gained. U.S. markets also ended mixed, with the Dow Jones falling and the Nasdaq posting gains.
On the institutional front, FIIs sold equities worth ₹1,681 crore, marking their third straight session of outflows, while DIIs continued their buying streak, investing ₹3,578 crore on July 21.
