Indian equity markets continued their upward momentum for the third consecutive session this week, buoyed by strong buying in IT, pharma, and auto sectors on Wednesday.
The Sensex closed at 84,466.51, up 595.19 points or 0.71%, after opening higher at 84,238.86 against the previous close of 83,871.32.&nbsp;
The 30-share index maintained its positive trajectory to hit an intraday high of 84,652.01 amid sustained buying interest.
Similarly, the Nifty ended the session at 25,875.80, gaining 180.85 points or 0.70%.
&ldquo;Global equities rallied on renewed risk appetite, driven by optimism over the anticipated resolution of the U.S. government shutdown and growing expectations of early Fed cuts amid signs of a cooling U.S. labour market,&rdquo; said Vinod Nair, Head of Research, Geojit Investments Limited.
He added that emerging markets outperformed amid improved global sentiment, while strong domestic macroeconomic indicators, including easing CPI and WPI inflation, a robust GDP outlook, and healthy H2 FY26 earnings expectations, continue to support bullish market sentiment.
Among the top gainers on the Sensex were TCS, Adani Ports, Bharti Airtel, Infosys, and Sun Pharma, while Tata Steel and Tata Motors (both PV and CV units) closed lower.
Sectoral indices largely mirrored the uptrend. 
Nifty IT surged 738 points (2.04%), Nifty Auto rose 336 points (1.24%), Nifty Bank gained 136 points (0.23%), and Nifty Financial Services advanced 82 points (0.12%).
Broader markets also maintained strength, with Nifty Smallcap 100 rising 149 points (0.82%), Nifty Midcap 100 up 475 points (0.79%), and Nifty 100 higher by 160 points (0.61%).
Meanwhile, the rupee traded lower by 6 paise at 88.62, staying range-bound as traders awaited key global economic cues. 
The dollar index remained steady near 99.60, with limited movement ahead of U.S. CPI data, which analysts expect will influence both the dollar&rsquo;s trajectory and rupee trends.
Analysts foresee the rupee trading within a narrow band of 88.40&ndash;88.85 in the near term.
