Shares of HDFC Asset Management Company Ltd. dropped by as much as 5% on Monday, June 16, after global brokerage firm JPMorgan downgraded the stock from 'Overweight' to 'Neutral'. The brokerage retained its price target at ₹5,000, suggesting just a 1% upside from Friday&rsquo;s closing price of ₹4,959.
JPMorgan noted that the stock has already surged 33% in the past three months, outperforming the Nifty&rsquo;s 10% gain during the same period. Due to the recent rally, the brokerage sees limited near-term catalysts for further upside.
While equity inflows have remained strong in recent years due to favourable inflation, steady GDP growth, and supportive monetary policy, they&rsquo;ve started slowing in 2025. However, resilient SIP flows continue to support the medium-term investment case.
JPMorgan believes these positive factors are already priced in, reflected in the high P/E valuations for FY26 and FY27 at 37x and 33x, respectively.
Despite the downgrade, analyst sentiment remains largely positive: 20 of the 27 analysts tracking the stock have a &lsquo;Buy&rsquo; rating, six recommend &lsquo;Hold&rsquo;, and only one has a &lsquo;Sell&rsquo; rating. So far in 2025, HDFC AMC stock is up 19%.
