Gold prices ended the week with strong gains, breaking a multi-week losing streak, but slipped sharply on Friday after the US government shutdown came to an end, cooling safe-haven sentiment.
The price of 24-carat gold (10 grams) surged by ₹4,694 over the week. However, it closed at ₹1,24,794 for the week, up from ₹1,20,100 last week, according to data shared by the India Bullion and Jewellers Association (IBJA).
On Friday, the bullion market saw one of the steepest intraday declines, with gold tumbling nearly ₹5,000 per 10 grams to hit a low of ₹1,21,895, before recovering partially later in the day.
International gold prices followed a similar downtrend, falling about $127 per ounce as expectations of a near-term US Federal Reserve rate cut weakened. Bullion hovered around $4,000 throughout the week, while the dollar index stayed near 100 and the USD-INR rate approached 89.
Analysts noted that despite Friday&rsquo;s fall, precious metals recorded their best weekly performance in a month, driven by uncertainty created by missing US economic data, which boosted safe-haven buying earlier in the week.
However, gold prices softened after the end of the US government shutdown eased concerns over potential economic disruption.
Market experts said gold currently finds support at ₹1,25,750&ndash;₹1,24,980 and faces resistance at ₹1,27,750&ndash;₹1,28,400. Silver prices are supported at ₹1,60,950&ndash;₹1,59,400 with resistance at ₹1,63,850&ndash;₹1,64,900.
Analysts expect the mild weakness in bullion to continue in the near term unless safe-haven demand rises again or the Federal Reserve&rsquo;s policy stance becomes clearer.
