Gitanjali Angmo, wife of detained climate activist Sonam Wangchuk, on Friday clarified that she does not want his arrest to be turned into a political issue, saying such an approach &ldquo;does not align&rdquo; with their values.
Angmo confirmed that she has filed a habeas corpus petition in the Supreme Court under Article 32, seeking Wangchuk&rsquo;s immediate release. 
The petition, filed on October 2, is expected to be heard once the court reopens after the Dussehra holidays on October 6.
&ldquo;We have received support from all corners, but I do not wish to politicise this matter. Sonam and I have always remained apolitical. We want to fight this legally, on its merits,&rdquo; Angmo told ANI, while acknowledging solidarity from civil society, NGOs, influencers, political groups, and even retired military officials.
Wangchuk, a noted educationist and environmentalist, was detained on September 26 under the National Security Act (NSA) and shifted to Jodhpur Central Jail. 
Authorities have accused him of instigating violent protests in Ladakh over demands for statehood and inclusion under the Sixth Schedule, which left four dead and hundreds injured.
The Ladakh administration has defended the preventive detention, citing Wangchuk&rsquo;s remarks about &ldquo;self-immolation&rdquo; in his speeches as a potential threat to public order. 
Officials said the grounds of detention were served to him under NSA provisions, which permit custody in matters of national security.
