A Delhi court has allowed former JNU student Umar Khalid temporary release from jail so he can attend his sister&rsquo;s wedding later this month. Khalid, who has been in custody since 2020 in connection with the Delhi riots conspiracy case, will be out on interim bail from December 16 to December 29.
The judge noted that the request was made for the wedding of Khalid&rsquo;s real sister and approved the application with specific conditions. Khalid must stay either at his home or at the designated wedding venues and is permitted to meet only close family, relatives and friends. He has also been instructed not to use social media during this period.
Khalid had initially sought bail starting December 14, but the court granted him two days fewer than requested. His sister's wedding is scheduled for December 27.
This is not the first time Khalid has been granted temporary release for a family function. He received a week-long bail in December 2024 to attend his cousin&rsquo;s wedding.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court has reserved its decision on his main bail plea along with those of five others accused in the same case.
