The Supreme Court has ordered Anirudhsinh Jadeja to surrender. He must return to jail by 18 September.
A bench of Justice Dipankar Datta and Justice Augustine George Masih heard his plea. The court rejected his petition. It confirmed that the 2018 remission order was issued without authority.
<h4 data-start="729" data-end="751">The Murder Case</h4>
On 15 August 1988, Jadeja killed MLA Popatlal Sorathiya. The shooting took place at an Independence Day event in Gondal.
In 1994, a sessions court acquitted him. The state appealed. In 1997, the Supreme Court convicted him under TADA. He was sentenced to life imprisonment. Jadeja was arrested in 2000.
<h4 data-start="1102" data-end="1122">The Remission</h4>
In 2018, Jadeja&rsquo;s son sought remission. Prison authorities granted it. Jadeja was released after 18 years in custody.
This decision was later challenged by Harsh Sorathiya, grandson of the slain MLA. The Gujarat High Court cancelled the remission last week. The court directed Jadeja to deposit his passport, report daily, and surrender within four weeks.
<h4 data-start="1518" data-end="1536">Other Cases</h4>
Jadeja and his son Rajdeepsinh are also accused in the Amit Khunt suicide case in Ribda. Police filed a case of abetment to suicide.
On 19 August, the Gondal court rejected Jadeja&rsquo;s anticipatory bail. His son&rsquo;s bail plea was also dismissed earlier.
Police say Jadeja has been untraceable for four months. With the Supreme Court&rsquo;s order, his return to custody is now certain.
