The&nbsp;Gujarat High Court&nbsp;on Wednesday issued a contempt of court notice to the Gujarat Pollution Control Board (GPCB), the Ahmedabad police commissioner and others over a petition seeking punishment for officers who did not follow existing rules to curb&nbsp;noise pollution.
A bench comprising Justice AS Supehia and Justice Nisha Thakore on Wednesday issued notices to the principal secretary of the state Forest and Environment Department, Ahmedabad police commissioner, Ahmedabad municipal commissioner and member secretary of the GPCB in connection with the noise pollution prevailing across the state.&nbsp;
A contempt of court petition was moved after authorities failed to abide by the orders issued by the Gujarat High Court last year and the Supreme Court in 2005.
The court directed the relevant authorities to file appropriate responses in four weeks&rsquo; time.&nbsp;

The petition, filed by advocate Amit Panchal, highlighted the continued non-compliance with previous court orders and the persistence of noise pollution in the state despite the provisions of the GPCB notification.
During the hearing, the bench acknowledged noise pollution as a serious public concern. Panchal informed the court that following a public interest writ petition filed in 2022, the HC had issued an order on March 4, 2024, directing government authorities, including the Ahmedabad police commissioner and the municipal commissioner, to take action. 
However, he argued that the order was not being effectively implemented across the state, including in Ahmedabad. He also pointed out that the Supreme Court had issued guidelines for controlling noise pollution, which needed to be enforced.
