None of the 32 judges of the Gujarat High Court have disclosed their asset details on the official website, despite a recent Supreme Court directive requiring all current and future judges of the apex court and high courts to publicly declare their assets.&nbsp;
The directive followed a case involving Justice Yashwant Varma, who was transferred from the Delhi High Court to the Allahabad High Court, where crores of rupees in cash were discovered at his residence during a fire incident last month.&nbsp;
As of April 11, 2025, only 11.94% of judges across the country had declared their assets on the official websites of the Supreme Court and high courts. Out of 762 high court judges, only 95&mdash;approximately 12.46%&mdash;have made their declarations public.&nbsp;
Judges from 19 high courts, including those in Allahabad, Bombay, Calcutta, Gujarat, and Patna, have not disclosed their assets.
The Allahabad High Court, the largest in the country with 81 judges, has also seen no asset disclosures to date. By contrast, the Kerala High Court has recorded the highest level of compliance, with 41 of its 44 judges publicly declaring their assets. Judges from the Punjab and Haryana High Court have also shown a comparatively higher level of transparency.
In the Supreme Court, 30 of the 33 sitting judges have submitted their asset declarations to Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna. However, due to unspecified &lsquo;technical issues&rsquo;, none of these disclosures have been made available on the court&rsquo;s website. As a result, asset details of all Supreme Court judges remain inaccessible to the public.
Despite the Supreme Court&rsquo;s clear directive intended to enhance transparency in the judiciary, overall compliance remains significantly low across the country.
