The Delhi High Court on Wednesday dismissed a petition seeking to bar Prasar Bharati, which operates Doordarshan and All India Radio, from referring to the Board of Control for Cricket in India&rsquo;s (BCCI) squad as &ldquo;Team India&rdquo; or the &ldquo;Indian National Team.&rdquo;
A division bench of Chief Justice DK Upadhyay and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela described the petition, filed by advocate Reepak Kansal, as a &ldquo;complete wastage of the court&rsquo;s time.&rdquo;
Kansal argued that since the BCCI is a private body registered under the Tamil Nadu Societies Registration Act, it should not be portrayed as India&rsquo;s national cricket team by a government-funded broadcaster. 
He claimed such references were misleading and violated the Emblems and Names (Prevention of Improper Use) Act, 1950, and the Flag Code of India, 2002.
The court, however, dismissed these claims, stating there was no legal breach in the use of the national flag or the name &ldquo;India&rdquo; by the BCCI. 
&ldquo;Today, any private person can unfurl the flag. Are you saying this team does not represent India? This team, which is going everywhere and representing India, is certainly Team India,&rdquo; the bench remarked.
Before concluding, the judges advised the petitioner to focus on filing &ldquo;better Public Interest Litigations (PILs)&rdquo; instead of wasting valuable judicial time with such frivolous matters.
