Chief Justice of India (CJI) BR Gavai on Tuesday expressed concern over the increasing trend of judges&rsquo; oral observations being misrepresented on social media. 
His remarks came just a day after a lawyer attempted to hurl a shoe at him inside the Supreme Court.
Recounting a past instance, CJI Gavai said he had once advised his colleague, Justice K. Vinod Chandran, to refrain from making oral comments during the hearing of the Dheeraj Mor case to avoid possible distortion online.
&ldquo;My learned brother had something to comment. I stopped him from expressing it when we were hearing the Dheeraj Mor case. Otherwise, on social media, we do not know what will be reported. I requested my learned brother to restrict it only to my ears,&rdquo; CJI Gavai said during the court proceedings.
The observation came as a bench comprising CJI Gavai and Justice Chandran was hearing a petition filed by the All India Judges Association regarding service conditions, pay scales, and promotions of judicial officers. 
The case has now been referred to a five-judge Constitution Bench for further consideration.
CJI Gavai&rsquo;s remarks underscore the judiciary&rsquo;s growing concern over the misreporting and distortion of courtroom exchanges in an era dominated by viral social media narratives.
