The US State Department has issued a fresh and urgent warning urging all American citizens&mdash;particularly those of Iranian heritage&mdash;not to travel to Iran under any circumstances.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the State Department's Consular Affairs bureau wrote,
"US citizens should NOT travel to Iran for any reason. Dual nationals have been kidnapped, wrongfully detained, tortured, and even sentenced to death&mdash;sometimes without any charges or evidence."
The message highlighted that even holding a US passport or having family ties in the United States is enough to provoke arrest by Iranian authorities.
Spokesperson Tammy Bruce reiterated the message at a press briefing, stressing that the Iranian regime does not recognise dual nationality and routinely denies consular access to detained Americans.

This warning comes shortly after a 12-day conflict between Iran and Israel, during which the US launched strikes on key Iranian nuclear sites, further worsening diplomatic relations.
"This is not just a travel advisory. It&rsquo;s a critical safety alert,&rdquo; Bruce said, urging Iranian-Americans especially to heed the warning.
