The US embassy has clarified that Pakistan will not receive any new Advanced Medium-Range Air-to-Air Missiles (AMRAAMs). This comes after reports suggested that the US might supply these missiles amid warming diplomatic ties.
Earlier reports had indicated that Pakistan was among 35 potential buyers for AIM-120 AMRAAMs under a US Department of War contract. However, the embassy confirmed that the contract was merely an amendment to an existing Foreign Military Sales agreement covering sustainment and spares for multiple countries, including Pakistan. No new missile deliveries or capability upgrades are included.
The contract, awarded to Raytheon in Tucson, Arizona, covers the C8 and D3 variants of AMRAAMs and is valued at over $2.5 billion. Besides Pakistan, the contract lists numerous other countries, including the UK, Germany, Japan, Saudi Arabia, and Australia.
The work order under the contract is expected to be completed by May 30, 2030.
