The United Nations has issued a grave warning about the collapsing humanitarian operations in Gaza, citing extreme obstacles including unreliable supply routes, blocked aid convoys, and severe security threats to relief workers.
According to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), the amount of aid reaching Gaza remains vastly inadequate. &ldquo;Aid is entering in a trickle, nowhere near matching the massive needs,&rdquo; said OCHA, calling on Israel to open all crossings and allow safe, unimpeded delivery of critical supplies, including fuel and medical equipment.
Hospitals are overwhelmed, and many are shutting down due to fuel shortages. Reports say even aid workers are collapsing from hunger and exhaustion as mass starvation continues to spread. Vulnerable groups&mdash;such as the elderly and people with disabilities&mdash;are especially at risk, lacking food, healthcare, and assistive devices.
OCHA stressed that the logistics of aid delivery are nightmarish, requiring multiple approvals, ceasefires, and even assurances from military forces. &ldquo;Civilians approaching UN trucks are sometimes shot at,&rdquo; the agency noted.
In response to criticism, Israel has tightened visa regulations for OCHA staff, further straining operations. The UN, however, says it stands ready to ramp up relief efforts if a ceasefire is secured.
