<div><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;">According to Michael Kananura, spokesperson for the Directorate of Traffic and Road Safety, the tragic event unfolded on Monday evening at Makindu trading centre. The bus, which was en route from Kampala to Soroti via the Kisoga-Nyega highway, reportedly hit a commercial motorcycle (boda boda), overturned, and ignited, trapping many passengers inside.</span></div>

<div><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;">Eyewitnesses reported horrifying scenes as the flames engulfed the vehicle. Local media have suggested that more than 40 people may have died in the accident. The bus was carrying over 70 passengers at the time.</span></div>

<div><span style="font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;">Kananura confirmed that emergency services rushed to the scene to contain the fire and rescue any survivors. Injured individuals were taken to Kawolo Hospital, St. Francis Lwanga Hospital, and other nearby medical facilities for treatment.</span></div>

A commuter taxi collided with a stationary truck along the Iganga-Mbale road, killing five passengers instantly and injuring several others. Authorities believe the accident was caused by speeding and improper parking of the truck, which was being loaded with papyrus at the time.</span></div>
