A Turkish military cargo plane carrying 20 people crashed in Georgia near the border with Azerbaijan on Tuesday, authorities from both countries confirmed. 
No immediate details about casualties were rereleased.
According to Turkiye&rsquo;s Ministry of National Defence, the C-130 aircraft had taken off from Azerbaijan and was en route back to Turkiye when it went down. 
Video footage broadcast by Turkish media appeared to show the plane spiralling toward the ground, trailing a line of white smoke.
Turkiye&rsquo;s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan indicated there were casualties, saying he was &ldquo;deeply saddened&rdquo; by the crash and extended his condolences for the &ldquo;martyrs.&rdquo; 
&ldquo;God willing, we will overcome this accident with the least amount of setbacks possible,&rdquo; Mr. Erdogan said.
The Defence Ministry said 20 military personnel, including crew members, were on board. 
A search and rescue operation was launched in coordination with Azerbaijani and Georgian authorities.
Georgia&rsquo;s Interior Ministry confirmed that the plane crashed in the Sighnaghi municipality, near the Azerbaijani border, and announced that an investigation had been initiated.
C-130 military cargo aircraft are commonly used by Turkiye&rsquo;s armed forces for troop transport and logistical operations. 
Turkiye and Azerbaijan share close military ties and frequently conduct joint defence activities.
