US President Donald Trump on Wednesday did not rule out further military action against Iran if it attempts to rebuild its nuclear enrichment facilities. Speaking on the sidelines of the NATO Summit in The Hague, Trump responded with a firm "Sure" when asked if the US would strike again under such circumstances.
Trump asserted that Washington will not allow Tehran to enrich uranium, even hinting at military intervention. &ldquo;We will not let that happen. Number one, militarily. I think we will end up having somewhat of a relationship with Iran,&rdquo; he said, according to Xinhua News Agency.
Earlier, Trump strongly dismissed an intelligence report suggesting that recent US airstrikes had only delayed Iran&rsquo;s nuclear programme by a few months. The Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA) report, cited by CNN and The New York Times, claimed much of Iran's enriched uranium stockpile had been moved before the strikes.
Calling the media coverage &ldquo;fake news,&rdquo; Trump posted on Truth Social, insisting:
&ldquo;The nuclear sites in Iran are destroyed! Both the Times and CNN are getting slammed by the public.&rdquo;
Meanwhile, Steve Witkoff, US President&rsquo;s Special Envoy to the Middle East, called the leak of the DIA report "treasonous", demanding an investigation into those responsible.
&ldquo;Leaking that type of information &mdash; whatever the side &mdash; is outrageous. It could hurt lives in the future,&rdquo; Witkoff said in an interview with Fox News.
The developments come amid fragile tensions in the Middle East following a prior US operation dubbed "Midnight Hammer", which targeted Iran's nuclear sites in Esfahan, Natanz, and Fordow.
