US President Donald Trump has declared that the United States will supply weapons to Ukraine through NATO, and warned Russia of "severe tariffs" if a ceasefire is not reached within 50 days.
Speaking at the White House alongside NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, Trump confirmed that the US would manufacture and send various weapons to Ukraine. &ldquo;We are going to be sending them weapons and they&rsquo;re going to be paying for them,&rdquo; Trump said, underlining that the delivery would be immediate.
He also threatened harsh economic retaliation against Russia if no peace deal is brokered soon. &ldquo;We&rsquo;re going to be doing very severe tariffs if we don&rsquo;t have a deal in 50 days,&rdquo; Trump said, later adding that these could include &ldquo;secondary tariffs&rdquo; around 100%.
Clarifying Trump&rsquo;s statements, US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick told The Washington Times that the term &ldquo;secondary tariffs&rdquo; was meant to indicate economic sanctions against Moscow.
According to The New York Times, Trump confirmed that the NATO deal is finalised and fully approved. Patriot missile systems from European allies are expected to reach Ukraine within days, Trump told reporters, as reported by ABC News.
This move marks a significant escalation in US-led NATO support for Ukraine amid the ongoing conflict with Russia.
