US President Donald Trump has pressed NATO allies to take stronger measures against Russia, suggesting sweeping tariffs of 50 to 100 per cent on China until the Ukraine conflict is resolved.
Writing on Truth Social, Trump said Washington was prepared to advance new sanctions against Moscow but only if European partners stopped importing Russian oil and acted together. He criticised NATO&rsquo;s commitment as inconsistent and accused some members of weakening the effort by continuing energy trade with Russia.
Trump argued that punitive tariffs on China were essential because of Beijing&rsquo;s influence over Moscow. These, he said, should remain in place until peace is restored. Labelling the conflict a &ldquo;deadly, but ridiculous war,&rdquo; he claimed more than 7,000 deaths occurred in the past week alone.
The president insisted the war &ldquo;would never have started&rdquo; under his leadership, describing it as &ldquo;Biden&rsquo;s and Zelenskyy&rsquo;s war.&rdquo; He maintained that his proposal would bring about a rapid end to the fighting, warning NATO that without such action, US resources were being wasted.
