According to his statement, Iran would initiate the ceasefire at the &ldquo;zero hour,&rdquo; with Israel following suit 12 hours later. After 24 hours of mutual restraint, he declared, the world would witness the end of a brutal 12-day war.
The former president&rsquo;s language was uncharacteristically euphoric. Trump issued a stern warning to Israel, cryptically saying, &ldquo;If you drop those bombs&hellip;&rdquo; &mdash; an apparent reference to reports of renewed Israeli aerial strikes. Simultaneously, he asserted that Iran&rsquo;s nuclear capacities were now &ldquo;gone,&rdquo; following US strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities, including Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan. Trump boldly claimed that Iran would &ldquo;never be able to rebuild&rdquo; its nuclear programme &mdash; a statement certain to be scrutinised both technically and politically in the coming days.
The Israeli response has been fierce. Defence Minister Israel Katz ordered intensified strikes on Tehran, alleging Iranian violations of the newly declared ceasefire. The Israeli military campaign appears to be expanding rather than winding down, casting doubt over the entire ceasefire architecture.
Iran, for its part, has denied breaching the truce. Its Supreme National Security Council issued a strong statement, warning that Iranian security forces remain fully prepared to retaliate with force should Israel continue its aggression. Tehran also maintains that its military operations were in response to prior Israeli escalations, not an abrogation of any ceasefire deal.
