President Donald Trump is set to arrive in London this week for a state visit with King Charles III and Prime Minister Keir Starmer, but his trip is already overshadowed by a British television expos&eacute;.
On the eve of his visit, Channel 4 announced it will air a documentary titled Trump v The Truth, which it describes as &ldquo;the longest uninterrupted reel of untruths, falsehoods and distortions ever broadcast on television.&rdquo; The program, premiering September 17, comes just one day after Trump and First Lady Melania Trump land in the UK.
The documentary is expected to scrutinize a range of statements from Trump&rsquo;s second term, including his claim that his administration stopped &ldquo;$50 million being sent to Gaza to buy condoms for Hamas&rdquo; and his insistence that the U.S. had delivered over &ldquo;$300 billion in aid to Ukraine.&rdquo; Both assertions were later debunked.
Smaller but telling remarks, from misstatements on egg prices to exaggerated claims on immigration are also set to be dissected. The film may even touch on Trump&rsquo;s alleged connections to Jeffrey Epstein, a subject Trump has repeatedly denied while suing the Wall Street Journal for reporting on a note said to link him to the disgraced financier.
Channel 4&rsquo;s Chief Content Officer Ian Katz said the program aims to hold the president accountable. &ldquo;Donald J Trump loves making history. So, on Wednesday Channel 4, we&rsquo;ll show what we believe to be the longest uninterrupted reel of untruths ever broadcast on television,&rdquo; Katz explained. He added: &ldquo;We hope it reminds viewers how disorientating and dangerous the world becomes when the most powerful man on earth shows little regard for the truth.&rdquo;
Despite the media storm, Trump&rsquo;s itinerary remains tightly choreographed. On Wednesday, he and Melania will be welcomed at Windsor Castle by Prince William and Princess Kate, before meeting King Charles and Queen Camilla for a Guard of Honour ceremony and a state banquet. Talks with Prime Minister Keir Starmer are also scheduled.
Trump&rsquo;s last visit to Britain was in 2019 during his first term, when he met Queen Elizabeth II amid widespread protests in London. Reports at the time suggested the late Queen found him &ldquo;very rude.&rdquo;
This time, Trump arrives not only as president but also as a lightning rod for controversy, with his reputation, his rhetoric, and now his very words under the glare of an international spotlight.
