US President Donald Trump told the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday that he ended a war between India and Pakistan, counting it among seven conflicts he claims to have resolved since taking office. Trump argued that he deserved the Nobel Peace Prize for each one but said saving lives mattered more than the award itself.
India has maintained that it ended Operation Sindoor, its military action against Pakistan, independently and not under US pressure. New Delhi has repeatedly rejected any third-party mediation in its disputes with Islamabad. Officials suggest this stance influenced Trump&rsquo;s decision to impose aggressive trade tariffs on India.
Pakistan initially endorsed Trump&rsquo;s mediation claim and even sought a Nobel Peace Prize for him. However, Deputy Prime Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar recently acknowledged that India never agreed to US involvement. He revealed that Pakistan raised the matter with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who confirmed India&rsquo;s opposition to outside mediation.
The military confrontation had erupted in May after a terror attack in Kashmir&rsquo;s Pahalgam. Trump has often argued that his administration used trade as leverage to prevent escalation into nuclear conflict. His tally of &ldquo;wars ended&rdquo; has varied, reaching as high as 11 at times, before settling back to seven.
At the UN stage, Trump listed conflicts he claims to have ended, including those between India and Pakistan, Israel and Iran, Egypt and Sudan, Rwanda and the Democratic Congo, Armenia and Azerbaijan, and Cambodia and Thailand. He criticised the United Nations, saying it should have been responsible for peace efforts instead of the US.
