Thailand launched airstrikes along its disputed border with Cambodia on Monday after fresh clashes left at least one Thai soldier dead and seven others injured, sharply escalating tensions between the two neighbouring countries.
The Thai military said the airstrikes targeted Cambodian military positions in several areas after Thai troops allegedly came under attack earlier in the day. 
The strikes were carried out in the easternmost Thai province of Ubon Ratchathani as a direct retaliation for the assault on its forces.
&ldquo;The Thai side has now begun using aircraft to strike military targets in several areas,&rdquo; the army said in a statement.
Cambodia, however, accused Thailand of initiating the attacks. 
The Cambodian defence ministry said Thai forces launched assaults on its troops at two different locations early Monday, following what it described as days of provocative actions. 
Cambodian authorities also claimed their forces had not retaliated and urged Thailand to immediately halt all hostile activities that threaten regional peace and stability.
The fresh violence comes despite a ceasefire agreement that was signed two months ago to prevent renewed hostilities between the two sides. 
The truce had aimed to de-escalate tensions after a deadly five-day conflict in July, during which at least 48 people were killed and more than 300,000 residents were temporarily displaced amid heavy artillery fire and rocket attacks.
The ceasefire had already come under strain last month after a Thai soldier was injured by landmines along the border, prompting Thailand to partially halt the implementation of the agreement.
Following the latest airstrikes, Thai authorities announced large-scale evacuations in the affected regions. 
More than 385,000 civilians across four border districts are being moved to safer locations, with over 35,000 people already shifted to temporary shelters.
The situation remains tense as both sides continue to trade accusations, raising fresh concerns over stability along the long-disputed border.
